Vol. 222 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Report of Wages Tribunal.

7.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state, in view of the fact that it was stated to both Houses of the Oireachtas that the Tribunal investigating the wages of clerical grades in State and semi-State bodies would publish their findings by 1st March, 1966, the reasons why this report has not yet been published; and if he will give a firm date for its publication.

If the Deputy refers to column 1026 of the Dáil Debates for 3rd November last and column 303 of the Seanad Debates for 10th November, he will see that I informed both Houses that I intended to ask the members of the Tribunal to set 1st March, 1966 as their latest target date for reporting. I added in the Seanad that, if the Tribunal found that this period was not sufficient, it could spend a longer time at its deliberations. The Tribunal were informed accordingly.

The Chairman of the Tribunal subsequently informed me that, although they had been meeting almost continuously, it was not possible to meet the target date. On 5th May last the Tribunal indicated that their report would be ready by 20th May next.
