Vol. 222 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Provender Milling Wage Regulations.

36.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will arrange to exempt from the provender milling wage regulations persons employed in small crushing plants which mill and crush for farmers on a hireage charge, as they cannot operate in view of the wage clause laid down in the regulations.

The minimum wages of workers employed in provender milling, either for sale or on commission, have been fixed by an Order of the Labour Court on the recommendation of the Provender Milling Joint Labour Committee. I am not satisfied that small crushing plants cannot operate because the owners are obliged to pay the statutory minimum wages.
