Vol. 222 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Primary School.

49.

asked the Minister for Education why he has decided that a new primary school should not be built at the present time in the Navan Road area, Dublin; and why he refused to authorise the signing of the contract of the lowest tenderer.

The position had been reached when by far the biggest building scheme ever undertaken in the case of national schools was being operated. In order to ensure that an undue proportion of the available capital would not be devoted to this single aspect of the overall building programme it was found necessary to draw up a priority list. The urgency associated with the building of the Eoin Bosco School at Navan Road to which the Deputy refers was not such as to warrant it being placed on this year's list. The matter of priorities in school building is being kept under constant review and the building of this school will be allowed to proceed at the earliest possible moment.

Will it be on next year's list?

I could not say that, positively, but the chances are fairly good.
