Vol. 222 No. 13

Written Answers. - Council of Agricultural Institute.

55.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries (1) the nominating organisations which elect the Council of the Agricultural Institute; (2) the organisations directly represented on the Council to date; and (3) the organisations which received a grant-in-aid in 1965 and the amount of the grant or contribution.

The Chairman of the Council of An Foras Talúntais is appointed by the President and the 12 ordinary members by the Government. Five of the ordinary members are nominated by agricultural and rural organisations in accordance with An Foras Talúntais (Nomination of Members of the Council by Agricultural and Rural Organisations) Order, 1958. This Order provides that one person be nominated by each of five groups of organisations set out in the Schedule to the Order. Accordingly, each Council nominee of every group represents more than one organisation. Of the organisations scheduled the following received grants-in-aid from my Department in 1965-66: Federation of Irish Beekeepers, £200; Irish Countrywomen's Association, £9,000; Macra na Feirme, £5,000; Irish Agricultural Organisation Society Ltd., £30,000.
