Vol. 222 No. 15

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business in the following order: Nos. 10 — Vote 38 — 4 and 11. It is proposed to take No. 4 in conjunction with Vote 38. Questions will be taken at 2.30 p.m.

I understand No. 11 was not notified until the week-end. It was not announced in the early list of business last week. It may not be reached.

It may not be reached. The intention is to take the Second Reading only in this session of the Dáil and then to adjourn the Committee Stage until after the Summer Recess to give the Government ample opportunity of considering any views expressed in the House or by organisations outside.

We are very anxious that it should be taken but we do not think Thursday afternoon is the best time.

I should think it is unlikely that the debate on it would finish today. The opportunity of making the introductory speech will be helpful to Deputies.

If the time runs to about 4 o'clock, we will have the introductory speech only?

Yes, and keep the debate open. It is intended to deal only with the Second Reading of this Bill in this session.

But not today?

Not necessarily.

If it appears it is going to collapse, we can adjourn it.

Do I take it from what the Taoiseach has said that only the introductory speech will be taken?

No, I do not know. I cannot forecast the length of time the Agriculture Estimate will take. If there would be time, I should think we could go on with the debate until the normal hour of 5 o'clock.

I should like, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to raise on the Adjournment the subject matter of Question No. 21 of the 24th instant relating to the unjust application of differential rents in Ballyfermot.

I shall communicate with the Deputy.
