Vol. 222 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Reunification of Ireland.

1.

asked the Minister for External Affairs the last occasion on which the question of the reunification of Ireland was brought before the United Nations; the support, if any, which this question received, and from whom; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I would refer the Deputy to the replies given to similar questions on 13th May, 1964, 7th March, 1962, 14th February, 1962, 6th December, 1961, 18th November, 1959 and 7th July, 1959. Government policy in this matter, as clearly defined in those replies, remains unaltered.

The Minister has not answered the question. He was asked the last occasion on which the question of reunification was brought before the United Nations.

I have referred the Deputy to answers to questions which fully set out the Government's policy on that matter.

Surely the Minister appreciates that Deputy O'Connell was not a member of the House at that time and that is not the correct way to answer such a question?

I have given him the references.

If the Minister looked up the references himself, surely he had the answer? Why does he not state what it is? It would take less time.

It is so long ago he has forgotten.

Mr. O'Leary

There is no point in being diplomatic about this.
