Vol. 223 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Services on Dublin Estate.

17.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether steps are available to Dublin Corporation to oblige the developers of Springfield Avenue, Springfield Park, Springfield Crescent and Springfield Drive, Templeogue, Dublin to remedy the several defects in the waterworks services, sewers and main drainage and paving in those roads; if so, if he will give details of them; if he is aware of the considerable inconvenience being caused to residents of those roads by reason of the defective services there; whether any State grants in respect of houses there remain outstanding; and if we will make a statement on the matter.

Defects of the types specified appear to be matters for which remedies are provided under byelaws. Drainage matters are dealt with in the Dublin Corporation byelaws dealing with the construction of buildings. Penalties are provided for in Byelaw No. 115 and the remedy for contravention is provided in Byelaw No. 116 thereof. There are similar provisions in the byelaws relating to new streets which could be applied in the case of defects in the paving of roads. Defects relating to waterworks services may be dealt with under Regulation No. 80 of the Domestic Water Supply Regulations under the Dublin Corporation Waterworks Acts.

I am not aware of any inconvenience caused by defects as no complaint was made to my Department.

Of the applications received for grants in respect of houses in this estate, only two cases are outstanding at the present time.
