Vol. 223 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Searches for Missing Persons.

25.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will define the extent of the responsibility of the local authority in searching for missing persons, and under what legislation this responsibility is set out, in particular in cases where the person concerned is feared drowned; whether there is any statutory or other limit on the period when a local authority continues to search for such persons; and what criteria are employed in judging the proper length of such period of search.

Local authorities have no statutory responsibilities in this matter.

If I put a further question down to the Minister for Justice in respect of this matter, may I take it that that is the appropriate Department?
