asked the Minister for Local Government the latest financial year for which the accounts of each local authority, each health authority and each mental health board have been audited and reported on to him by local government auditors; and what steps will be taken to expedite such audits and to ensure the shortest possible time between the end of a financial year and the presentation of the necessary report.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Audit of Local Authority Accounts.
As the reply is mainly in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate it in the Official Report.
Following is the statement:

Owing to the difficulties of recruitment, the Audit Branch of my Department was short-staffed over a number of years but is now at full established strength, and audit programmes are being designed which it is hoped will progressively eliminate the arrears and bring the audits of local authority accounts up-to-date within the shortest possible time.
