Vol. 224 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Rivers.

35.

asked the Minister for Finance when it is proposed to clean the Owenboy river, Downfries, County Donegal; if he is aware of the damage caused last year because of the bad drainage and of the hardship imposed on local farmers; and if in view of this he will take steps to expedite matters.

The Commissioners of Public Works have no proposals for the cleaning of the Owenboy river.

36.

asked the Minister for Finance when it is proposed to drain the Burnfoot and Skeoge rivers, County Donegal; and if in view of the pressing need he will direct that general maintenance be carried out pending major drainage.

A scheme under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945, is being prepared by the Commissioners of Public Works for the Burnfort and Skeoge rivers. The scheme will be exhibited locally in accordance with the Act within the next few months, but at this stage I cannot say when works can commence.

Pending the carrying out of a scheme the Commissioners have no responsibility for the cleaning or maintenance of these rivers.
