Vol. 224 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Housing.

13.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of people in Dublin awaiting housing and the number of such people who are living (a) over five in one room, (b) over four in one room, (c) over three in one room, and (d) over two in one room.

I understand from Dublin Corporation that up-to-date information on the lines requested by the Deputy cannot be furnished pending a detailed review which is being undertaken by them. I have asked the corporation to furnish the required information as soon as possible and I will forward it to the Deputy when I receive it.

Why can it not be furnished at the present moment? The Minister will remember there were figures given three months ago; has there been no improvement since?

Apparently there is, at the moment, a more up-to-date investigation taking place and, pending the receipt of the information from this investigation, I may not and cannot furnish any information at the moment.

Has the Minister any idea when he can let the House have this information?

Hear, hear.

I am afraid I cannot because I am dependent on what is produced and provided for me by Dublin Corporation.

Could the Minister tell us how often the corporation makes a survey?

I do not imagine it is a regular occurrence but I may be wrong in that; I cannot say.

It is not on an annual basis?

I do not quite know.

Would there be anybody trying to keep the facts from the people at the present time?

I do not think so.

The Minister does not think so; it is a disgraceful thing——

I can assure the Deputy that I am not trying it anyway.
