Vol. 224 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Student Societies.

27.

asked the Minister for Education if any steps have been taken to encourage student societies in Ireland to be more closely associated with the work of the Council for Cultural Co-operation under the auspices of the Council of Europe.

Irish student bodies have already been associated with the work of the Council for Cultural Co-operation in a number of ways. Several Irish students have attended courses at the Experimental European Youth Centre at Strasbourg on the nomination of student societies. Groups of Irish students have participated in three study terms on the Continent organised within the framework of the work programme of the Council for Cultural Co-operation. Recently, on the initiative of my Department, societies representative of students have been taking part in informal discussions concerning the possibility of Irish membership of the Council of European National Youth Committees, a European body which enjoys consultative status with the Council for Cultural Co-operation.
