Vol. 224 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ardfinnan (Tipperary) Housing.

7.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the acute housing shortage which exists at Ardfinnan, Clonmel, County Tipperary, and of the large numbers of persons awaiting rehousing in the area; what the present position is regarding the acquisition of sites and the erection of much-needed housing at Ardfinnan; and when he expects that work will begin on the erection of such houses.

I understand that there are 25 families at present on the housing authority's approved list for rehousing in the Ardfinnan area. The council have recently acquired a site of about four acres at Mouroe East and are preparing a layout plan for about 30 houses on the site.

A further six houses to cater for the needs of the Ardfinnan area are to be provided at Newcastle. The plans and documents for this scheme are at present under consideration by my Department.

I am not in a position at this stage to say when work on these schemes will be commenced.
