Proposals put forward by Dublin Corporation for the construction of an underground car park at Saint Stephen's Green were carefully considered but were not approved by the Commissioners of Public Works as they would seriously interfere with the amenities of the Green which the Commissioners are under a statutory obligation to preserve.
