Vol. 225 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Warble Fly Treatment.

77.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the total number of cattle treated for warbles in the 17 creameries operated by the Dairy Disposal Company in Munster; the total cost to the farmers; the cost to the company of operating the scheme; the overall profit; and if the company retained all the profit.

78.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries (a) the total number of cattle treated for warbles in the Listowel group of creameries operated by the Dairy Disposal Company in the 1965 season; (b) the total cost of treating them, both for wash and operators; and (c) the total cost to the farmers; and what profit, if any, the Dairy Disposal Company made.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose taking Questions Nos. 77 and 78 together.

The company undertook treatment of cattle for warble in 12 of its 17 creamery groups in 1965. In the remaining five groups, the treatment was carried out by other A1 organisations. A total of 404,958 cattle were treated in the 12 groups, of which 40,091 were treated in the Listowel group. The total cost to farmers was £60,743, of which £6,013 applied to the Listowel group.

As regards the other parts of the questions, the Dairy Disposal Company is a private limited company which is not in receipt of financial assistance from the State, and it is not the practice to publish the accounts of particular creameries or of particular services of the company.
