Vol. 225 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Educational Facilities for Blind Children.

52.

Mr. O'Leary

asked the Minister for Education whether he has under consideration any plans for the extension of educational facilities for blind children.

Mr. O'Malley

My Department has been in consultation with the principals of the two schools for the blind with a view to having the educational facilities extended in these schools. I have every reason to believe that these consultations will result in the extension of the existing facilities in the near future.

Mr. O'Leary

Will the Minister's plans cover children living in areas not served by these schools?

Mr. O'Malley

This is under examination.

Mr. O'Leary

When will this examination be completed?

Mr. O'Malley

Over a year ago the inspector had consultations with the principals of the two existing schools with a view to improving post-primary educational facilities for blind children. This examination is almost complete. The position regarding areas not served by these schools is being studied as well.
