Vol. 225 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cattle Sales to Germany.

38.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if the promised two thousand cattle have yet been sold to Germany.

On 12th November, the authorities of the Federal Republic of Germany announced the opening of import facilities which cover the 2,000 head of Irish cattle, or their equivalent in beef, provided for in the recent agreement in respect of imports during the off-the-grass season.

In accordance with the normal practice, the purchasing will be done by the German importers under the authority of the West German Government.

The Minister did not tell us if cattle have been exported to Germany yet.

I would not say they have been.

I would not think so, but can the Minister tell us when they will be?

I cannot, no.
