Vol. 225 No. 9

32.

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the expenditure on housing for each financial year over the past decade, financed (a) by the State and (b) by rates; and the total for each year.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to have it circulated with the Official Report.

NOTES: The figures in column (2) represent the sum of the contributions by the Minister for Local Government towards the loan charges on borrowings for local authority housing plus the loan charges on borrowings for grants paid from capital by the Minister for private housing. Water and sewerage grants paid from revenue by the Minister are also included in this column as current items.

The figures in column (3) are the net current housing expenditure falling on the rates after taking account of receipts from rents, State subsidy, repayments of house-purchase loans etc.

The figures in column (5) are the private housing grants paid from capital by the Minister for Local Government.

Most of the capital for expenditure by local authorities shown in column (6) was provided by the State by way of loan from the Local Loans Fund.

Certain items of expenditure in respect of grants, etc., by Ministers other than the Minister for Local Government are not included in the Table but the amounts are not significant in relation to the totals.
