Vol. 226 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Airport Runway.

21.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if the main runway at Dublin Airport is entirely safe for use; if the Government will have the position examined in view of the recent complaint by the Irish Airline Pilots Association; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I would refer the Deputy to the statement issued by my Department and published in the public press on 24th January, 1967, which fully explains the matter. I may add that I am satisfied that the runway is entirely safe for use.

Have the engineering experts in the Minister's Department been quite satisfied from the report submitted to the Minister that the airport is quite safe?

This is a highly technical matter with which it would be impossible to deal as the subject of a parliamentary question. There will certainly be improvements carried out on this runway, in any event, in relation to lighting and such matters.

The Minister is quite satisfied?

I am quite satisfied.

Are the pilots satisfied?
