Vol. 226 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Increase in University Fees.

149.

asked the Minister for Education if he will make a statement on the result of his meeting with the deputation from the Students Representative Council of UCD, in relation to the hardship which would be caused by the increased fees; and if he proposes to take any action in this matter.

I have made a statement in regard to the matter to-day.

150.

Mr. Barrett

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that the declared policy of the British Government to raise the fees of overseas university students by 300 per cent will have grave repercussions on some 70 students attending a three-year full-time course in architecture at the Cork School of Art, most of whom are obliged to finish their studies in British universities; and if he will make representations to the British Minister of Education in the matter.

I do not consider that the question of the fees to be charged by British universities is one in which it would be appropriate for me to make representations to the British Minister of Education.
