Vol. 226 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Leitrim Schools.

159.

asked the Minister for Education if anything has been done to provide sanitary accommodation at Liscarbon national school, County Leitrim.

The matter of improving the sanitary accommodation at Liscarbon national school, County Leitrim has been under consideration, but it is not being pursued at present as the question of providing a new central school to replace this school and other schools in the parish is being actively investigated by my Department.

160.

asked the Minister for Education if anything had been done to provide sanitary accommodation for the 60 children who attend Tawneyinshinagh national school, Glenfarne, County Leitrim; if he is aware that a water supply can easily be provided for this school as a pipeline is beside it; and if any arrangement is being made by his Department to close this school at a later date.

I understand that plans and specification for providing a water-flushed system of sanitation at Towneyinshinagh national school together with instructions to seek tenders for the work have been issued to the Manager by the Commissioners of Public Works.

This arrangement is a short term one. In the long term my Department proposes to erect a new central school to cater for the pupils from Tawneyinshinagh national school and other schools in the same parish.
