Vol. 226 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Building Industry.

28.

asked the Minister for Local Government if it is believed that the set-back to the building industry is on the wane and that there will be a full resumption of all building projects during the present year.

The prospective level of activity in the building industry in 1967-68 will be the subject of review shortly between my Department, the Department of Finance and representatives of building employers and unions, in the light of the provision to be made in the public capital programme and other factors. I cannot anticipate the findings of this review meeting, but so far as the housing, roads and water and sewerage works for which I am responsible are concerned, I would regard the prospects as favourable.

Would the Minister be so courageous as to forecast a boom in the building industry?

Up to June anyway.

I think the position will be favourable.

A boom in the building industry and the Minister for Finance on the hot plate.
