asked the Minister for Labour the number of registered unemployed at present in Longford town, Edgeworthstown, Granard and any other employment exchanges in County Longford; the total number of unemployed in the county; and what action he intends to take to provide work for these people.

asked the Minister for Labour the number of registered unemployed at present in Athlone, Mullingar, Moate, Castlepollard, Kilbeggan and any other employment exchanges in County Westmeath; the total number of unemployed in the county; and what action he intends to take to provide work for these people.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 49 and 50 together.

The information sought by the Deputy is in the form of a tabular statement which, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to have circulated with the Official Report.

With regard to the last part of each question, I would refer the Deputy to a reply given by me on the 9th instant.

The latest date for which particulars are available of registered unemployed for the whole of County Westmeath is 27th January, 1967. The total registered unemployed on that date was 885.

Where are the 100,000 new jobs? There are 58,000 fewer in employment now than in 1956.
