asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will state in respect of the conciliation grades pension fund of CIE (a) the number of pensioners in receipt of pension on 1st January, 1967, (b) the total weekly amount paid in pensions, (c) the various rates paid and the number in each category, (d) the weekly amount contributed to the fund (i) by the staff, and (ii) by the Board, (e) the total amount standing to the credit of the fund on 31st December, 1966, (f) how the assets of the fund are invested and annual income from these investments, (g) the average annual administration costs, and (h) when it is intended to introduce a pension scheme based on the recommendation of the commission set up by the Minister for Industry and Commerce.

I assume that the Deputy's question relates to CIE wages grade pensioners.

Regarding parts (a) to (g) of the question, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to circulate a tabular statement in the Official Report giving the information required by the Deputy as at the latest date available.

With regard to part (h) of the question concerning the introduction of a definitive pension scheme for CIE wages grade staff I understand that negotiations are proceeding between CIE and the trade unions concerned.
