Vol. 226 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - American Airline Flights into Dublin.

3.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if his attention has been drawn to a recent statement by the London public relations officer of Pan American Airways that this company hopes to get permission later this month to use Dublin as a terminal point for east-bound flights from the USA; and, if so, if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have seen a press report of the statement in question. I have nothing to add to the statement on this subject issued on my behalf by the Government Information Bureau on 3rd February.

Might I point out that the bell did not ring through the House for Questions? It tinkled and then there was an electrical fault.

I did not hear it at all. Could we have it rung again, please? There is some electrical fault. Could we try it again?

All right, I suppose we could try it for three minutes.

Perhaps the Taoiseach would agree?

Yes. I obviously delayed the House some seconds.

Bell rung again for Question Time.

Arising out of the Minister's reply to Question No. 3, may I take it that the attitude of the Government towards the application by Pan American Airways for permission to come into Dublin has not changed and will not change?

In my reply, I drew attention to the statement issued on behalf of the Minister for Transport and Power in this regard by the Government Information Bureau on 3rd instant. In that statement it is indicated that there is no change in his policy and that the Government are not aware of any circumstances which would warrant a departure from it.

That is the position now?
