Vol. 226 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Storage of Homeless Persons' Furniture.

21.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that Dublin Corporation has called upon a number of homeless persons to remove their furniture from a garage owned by the corporation in Rathfarnham, which furniture had been stored there since the corporation evicted such persons from homes declared to be dangerous; and if, having regard to the hardship which will be caused to the persons concerned, steps will now be taken to provide them with homes or other accommodation in which to store their furniture.

I am informed by Dublin Corporation that they have not requested any homeless person whose furniture is stored by them at Rathfarnham to remove it.

If I bring to the Minister's notice a case of which I am aware, evidenced by correspondence from Dublin Corporation, that a request was made to these people to remove their furniture, will the Minister see to it that whatever officials are responsible for giving him what is clearly false information are suspended?

If the Deputy alleges that I have wrong information, I will inquire into it.

And see that there is appropriate action taken? This is not the first time that false information has been given. I am assuming that the Minister passes on here information given to him.

This is all theoretical, on the assumption that false information was given. I have no reason to believe that it was, but if the Deputy assures me that is so, I shall inquire into it.

I will show the letter to the Minister. It is outrageous. The corporation are about to demolish the store in question.
