Vol. 226 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Circuit Court Actions.

41.

asked the Minister for Justice when and what steps will be taken to shorten the long delays which now occur between service of notices of trial in the Dublin Circuit Court and the hearing of actions.

With a view to reducing the time-lag between the service of notices of trial and the hearing of actions in the Dublin Circuit Court, the President of the Circuit Court has arranged for a fourth judge to sit in the Dublin Circuit. I expect that this additional assistance, together with certain internal re-organisation of business which is being effected by the judges attached to the Dublin Circuit, will result in a substantial improvement in the position with regard to the hearing of civil actions.

The question of excessive delays in Dublin is related to the temporary transfer of judges, which is a statutory function of the President of the Circuit Court, with whom I am in correspondence about the matter.

The matter is being kept under constant review and I shall take such steps as are open to me to bring the service to an acceptable level.
