Vol. 227 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dog Virus Disease.

25.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if his attention has been drawn to reports of an outbreak of a mystery dog virus disease which may cause the loss of many thousands of pounds to dog owners and what action his Department have taken in the matter.

I presume the Deputy is referring to an article which appeared in the Press recently.

My Department have had no reports of any unusual disease condition in dogs during the past 12 months and none of the cases of greyhound disease dealt with by my Department's Veterinary Research Laboratory during this period has been outside the normal pattern. Furthermore, inquiries which have been made from a number of veterinary practitioners have failed to reveal the occurrence of any mystery virus disease in dogs.
