Vol. 227 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

70.

(Cavan) asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in respect of County Cavan the number of private water and sewerage installations passed for payment of grants but awaiting payment for (a) six months or more, (b) three months or more, and (c) one month or more.

The following are the numbers of private water and sewerage grants in County Cavan which have been passed for payment but which are awaiting payment:— (a) Nil; (b) Nil; (c) 20.

71.

(Cavan) asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in respect of County Cavan the number of private water and sewerage installations awaiting inspection by inspectors of his Department for payment of grants for (a) one month or more, (b) two months or more, and (c) three months or more.

The following are the numbers of grant cases being dealt with by inspectors of my Department as at 3rd April, 1967:— (a) 14; (b) 1; (c) 1.

The figures given are not confined to cases where the house itself requires inspection; they include all cases where reports are required from my inspectors, whether in relation to the house involved, the means of the applicant, valuation, or otherwise.

72.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will make the necessary finance available to Cork County Council during the current year to enable the council to commence work on the Clonakilty regional scheme, the Crookhaven water and sewerage scheme and the Goleen sewerage scheme.

I am not in a position to say when a decision is likely to issue on the Cork County Council's application for loans to finance the schemes referred to by the Deputy.

73.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that Cork County Council have approved the provision of a water supply from the Schull-Ballydehob scheme for the proposed group water scheme at Rossbrin, Ballydehob; and, if so, if he will take steps to have the scheme commenced without further delay.

I understand that Cork County Council have recently offered the group a limited supply of water which would meet about 50 per cent of their full needs. Pending the solution of the problem of augmenting the public supply which is at present under consideration by the council, the group are being advised to proceed with the preparation of a design for the scheme.

74.

asked the Minister for Local Government the reason for the delay in starting a group water scheme in the townland of Drimbane, Curry, County Sligo; when work is expected to start; if there will be a long delay; and if he will sanction grants for storage tanks, with water from roof, for new houses that have been built there.

Sligo County Council has approved in principle of this scheme, and it is expected that the technical details will be agreed shortly. In these circumstances, I do not anticipate any undue delay in getting the scheme started.

75.

(Cavan) asked the Minister for Local Government the date on which the water and sewerage installation of a person (name supplied) was passed for payment of a grant; and if he will explain the delay in paying the grant.

Payment of the grant in this case, which was passed on 13th January, 1967, was delayed by the inquiries which are being made in cases where there is evidence of an illegal no-rates campaign. The State grant will be paid next week.

(Cavan) Could the Minister tell me whether the rates in this case were paid or not?

Yes; they were paid on 28th March.

(Cavan): For what period?

The second moiety.

(Cavan): Am I correct in thinking that these rates were not overdue when this house was passed for payment on 13th January last?

They were, yes.

(Cavan): Technically, they were overdue since 1st October.

They were overdue, yes.

(Cavan): Technically, they were overdue since 1st October but they have never been paid on 1st October.

These rates were overdue. They have now been paid and the State grant will be paid next week.

(Cavan): Technically, they were overdue from 1st October. The Minister knows that that is dishonest.

It is not dishonest. They were overdue.

(Cavan): It is a dishonest excuse the Minister is giving. When is the Minister going to pay this grant?

It will be paid next week.

(Cavan): Is the Minister aware that this man had to sell a cow and was sued by his builders' providers as a result of the grant being held up in this case?

He should get in touch with the organisation which is conducting this illegal campaign.
