Vol. 227 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Relief of Unemployment.

119.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will make more money available in the Budget for the relief of unemployment in the congested areas so as to help the hardpressed smallholders particularly along the sea coast and in mountainous areas.

The Deputy will appreciate that I cannot indicate at this stage what the forthcoming Budget may or may not contain.

I would, however, draw the Deputy's attention to the increased provisions in the 1967-68 Estimates Volume for special employment schemes now administered by the Department of Local Government and to the substantial provisions in the Capital Budget 1967 for such items as building and construction, tourism, agriculture, forestry and fisheries. The increased expenditure under all these heads will be of direct and indirect benefit, to the smallholders mentioned by the Deputy.
