Vol. 227 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

28.

asked the Minister for Local Government on what date the scheme for the Knockdurath-Miltown-Headford, County Kerry water supply to serve 11 families was received in his Department; and the present position as regards this scheme.

There are no proposals before my Department for a water supply scheme to serve the areas referred to by the Deputy.

29.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the mid-Kerry water supply scheme, sections 1, 2 and 3 including Firies and Farranfore, which was to have started three years ago; how much money was paid to the consultants; and on what dates it was paid.

Contract documents for stage 1 of mid-Kerry regional water supply scheme which will serve the Farranfore and Firies areas are under consideration in my Department. I am not in a position to say when approval thereto is likely to issue. The information sought by the Deputy as to the money paid by Kerry County Council to the consultants for the scheme is not available in my Department.

Is it not true that this water scheme has been with the Department for three years? It involves over £1 million, and we know why it is held up.

I did not get the question.

How much did you pay the consultant and why did you put it in a pigeonhole? The answer is that you do not know how much you paid the consultant and you put it in a pigeonhole because you had no money to pay for it.

A consortium has been formed.

What amount of money was paid to the consultants?

I do not know how much money Kerry County Council paid the consultants.

Does the Minister not have to find out?

He is too lazy.

Maybe Deputy Connor is too lazy to ask Kerry County Council.

Why does the Minister not ask? The Minister gets up to £4,000 a year.

I have not the information.

It must have been favourable to somebody or the Minister would know it.

Had the Minister's Department not to sanction it?

The information the Deputy requested is not available.

It is, but the Minister will not give it.

They must have been members of Taca and the Minister does not want to give the information.

Next question.

Would I be right in saying that over £100,000 was paid?

The Deputy will resume his seat, on the instructions of the Chair.

Is it not a gross outrage for a Minister to say he has not information and will not bother to get it? It is a public scandal when we pay the fellow up to £4,000 a year to do nothing else.

It is not favourable to somebody to disclose the information.

30.

asked the Minister for Local Government when a sewerage service will be provided for approximately 20 families at the Tanyard, in the townland of Lackabawn, Millstreet, County Cork.

No proposals have been received in my Department for a sewerage scheme to serve the area referred to by the Deputy.
