Vol. 227 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pedestals for Traffic Gardaí.

31.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will consider the provision of pedestals for Garda traffic pointsmen on duty in central Dublin in order to afford the maximum degree of safety for them, particularly at night.

This question has been considered in all its aspects. The views of the Garda authorities are that the provision of pedestals would not be in the interests of traffic control or of the safety or comfort of the pointsmen.

The pointsmen themselves prefer to move about as the flow of traffic changes and they are of the opinion that they exercise better traffic control in this way.
