Vol. 227 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mortality Rate of Old Age Pensioners.

34.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the mortality rate of old age pensioners in each of the last five years.

The number of contributory and non-contributory pensioners in each of the last five years, and the number of names removed from the register each year because of death are shown, in the form of a tabular statement, which, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to circulate with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:

Total number of old age pensioners at end of year

Number of old age pensioners removed from register because of death during year

1962

153,838

15,814

1963

153,423

14,952

1964

152,991

14,858

1965

154,585

15,488

1966

155,060

16,913

Does the Minister say what the number would represent as a percentage of pensioners?

No, the figures are not worked out as a percentage. There has been no dramatic change over the last number of years.
