Vol. 227 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Manufacture of Chemicals.

63.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether his Department or any organisation for which his Department is responsible received proposals from a firm (details supplied) in respect of the manufacture of chemicals, chemical products and fertilisers for home usage and export; if so, whether a decision has been taken on the proposals; and the nature of the decision.

64.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether his Department or any organisation for which his Department has responsibility received proposals from firms (details supplied) in respect of the manufacture of chemicals, chemical products and fertilisers for home consumption and export; if so, whether the proposals as received were approved; and, if not, on what advice and on what grounds.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 63 and 64 together.

In the case of the three companies concerned there are no firm proposals. There have been discussions but, as information about industrial proposals is furnished in confidence by the private interests concerned, the Deputy will appreciate that I am precluded from giving particulars.

Do I understand from the Minister that there have, in fact, been discussions with each of the companies in question?

Could the Minister say for how long the discussions have been proceeding and when they commenced? My information is that one of the concerns in question has now gone to another country because of the delay.

I do not know that I can say anything on that. I have a whole lot of information which I am told is confidential.

We will not ask the Minister to commit a breach of confidence. We will ask about this on another occasion.
