Vol. 228 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Roscommon Electricity Supply.

2.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether, in view of the facts (a) that it is now ten years since the townland of Lisduff, Tibohine rural area, County Roscommon was first canvassed by the ESB, (b) that all the surrounding areas have electricity for the past four years, (c) that 14 households are involved in the Lisduff area which adjoins a pilot area scheme, and (d) that another two years are expected to pass before supply is provided, a further investigation will be made with a view to speeding up supply.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that the Tibohine rural area in which Lisduff is situated was developed under the Rural Electrification Scheme in 1963 and at that time all householders in the area were given an opportunity of accepting supply. The area will be re-canvassed under the post-development scheme within the next two years and all householders who have not already obtained supply will be given a further opportunity of doing so. To ensure orderly development and to keep costs to a minimum, the re-canvassing of the country is being done in a planned sequence of areas. It would upset the work and increase the cost unduly if the Board were to depart from their planned programme.
