asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the fact that residents of Dublin city who wish to buy houses in County Dublin are not eligible for a supplementary grant from either authority; and if he has any proposals to overcome this difficulty.

I am aware that the position is generally as stated by the Deputy. As indicated in reply to a question on the 5th July, 1966, the matter is one primarily for the housing authorities concerned who have, in fact, been asked to consider removing the restrictions. I understand that they are considering recommendations to this effect submitted to them by the city and county manager on the 31st March last.
I may add that, so far as I am concerned, I have included in the capital allocation to the county for 1967-68 a sum of £70,000 to enable them to finance the increased grants involved should they decide to waive the restrictions.
