The number of people at present employed in my Department is 1,345. The number of recipients of benefit, pensions and assistance in regular payment for which my Department is responsible is 676,500 approximately covering some 1,500,000 persons in all. In addition a weekly average of about 4,000 payments is made in respect of treatment benefits and marriage of maternity grants.
