Vol. 228 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Derating of Land.

7.

asked the Minister for Local Government if farmers of over £33 valuation on land are to get any benefit from derating.

It is not proposed to relieve fully the rates liability of holdings of agricultural land with valuations exceeding £20.

I intend to introduce legislation at an early date which will provide, in relation to farmers with land valuations in excess of £33, relief by way of a primary allowance of 80 per cent of the rates on the first £20 of such valuation and a supplementary allowance of 30 per cent of the rates on the remainder. In addition, the employment allowance will be made available towards the relief of the entire amount of the net rates which would otherwise be payable after deduction of the primary and supplementary allowances.
