Vol. 228 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Bridge.

37.

asked the Minister for Finance what is the present position regarding the provision of a bridge at Botinny, Charlestown, County Mayo; if the Office of Public Works have come to a decision on the matter; and when it is proposed to commence work.

The Commissioners of Public Works have no responsibility for this bridge, which is partially collapsed into the Coarse River, a tributary of the Moy. Drainage works under the Moy scheme will not reach the Coarse River until 1968. The Commissioners will consider in consultation with Mayo County Council what works should be carried out to the bridge in consequence of the drainage operations.

My question has nothing to do with the Moy. I asked for the reply to Question No. 36 to be repeated. May I have it or not? If I cannot have it, I must with regret ask to raise it on the Adjournment.

I understand that the Parliamentary Secretary read out the reply to Question No. 36.

I asked could I have it repeated and I understood the Parliamentary Secretary was prepared to do so. Is he prepared to do so?

I should like the Deputy's assurance before I do read it out that the House will hear it and that his Party will do something to control the disorder which they have been carrying on for the past half hour.

It is solely a matter for the Parliamentary Secretary.

The Tacumshane catchment is noted for consideration in the arterial drainage programme but owing to present commitments and the extent of the drainage problem generally I cannot say when it will be reached.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary give me any indication as to when this might be done? He will appreciate that there is a large catchment area behind it waiting for the Land Project and it is of some considerable importance to many farmers in the area.

I am aware of the extent of the problem. It is one of about 400 intermediate catchment areas and I cannot give the Deputy even a rough estimate of when it will be reached.

Question No. 37 has been answered. Question No. 38.

Somebody might ask the question for Deputy Cunningham as he is not here.

He was not here the day I asked it three months ago.

I will ask it for him.
