Vol. 229 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry River Drainage Scheme.

47.

asked the Minister for Finance the position of the drainage of the River Lee, Tralee in relation to its being placed under the Arterial Drainage Act; whether he is aware of the serious damage to lands by repeated flooding in the Blennerville area, County Kerry by tidal waters; and, if so, when work is likely to commence on this scheme.

The River Lee, Tralee, is No. 19 on the priority list of minor catchments to be dealt with under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945, and would not normally be reached for some years. A land survey of the catchment has in fact been carried out but study of river flows and tidal conditions over a long period will be necessary before the design of a scheme can be considered. It is not possible at present to say when work on a drainage scheme is likely to start.
