Vol. 229 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Parking of Cattle Lorries.

15.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether his Department are considering the arrangement of alternative parking sites for cattle lorries which now obstruct the public thoroughfare in Manor Street, Aughrim Street, and adjoining roads in Dublin.

The provision of parking sites for lorries attending at the Cattle Market is a matter primarily for Dublin Corporation and no proposals for the provision of such sites have been submitted to my Department by that body. I am, however, bringing the Deputy's representations to the a tention of the Corporation for their consideration.

The Minister is aware that a number of accidents have occured as the result of cattle lorries being parked in these streets. Smithfield is one site that occurs to my mind as an alternative parking place for these lorries. While the Minister is looking into the matter, he might also look into the fact that I have seen one cattle lorry with animals in it parked in one of these streets all night.

I am sending the Deputy's representations to the Corporation for their consideration.

Question No. 16 postponed.
