Vol. 229 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Roscommon Estate.

34.

asked the Minister for Lands if he has any proposals for the acquisition of the Giblin estate, Buckfield, Athleague, County Roscommon; if he is aware of the congestion in the district; and what steps he proposes to take to rectify the matter.

Proceedings for the acquisition of this 185-acre holding have reached the stage where the owner's objection has been heard and disallowed; the question of price is now being arranged and negotiations to that end will soon commence.

The Land Commission have already purchased properties totalling 100 acres in this locality—and, in the event of the Giblin estate being acquired, it is envisaged that composite resale proposals will be prepared for the combined area of 285 acres with a view to relieving the considerable congestion which obtains in the district.
