Vol. 229 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water Supply Schemes.

80.

asked the Minister for Local Government the cause of the delay in providing a group water supply scheme at Rising Sun, County Cork; and when he expects that work on this scheme will commence.

The group members have not yet obtained an adequate source of water for this scheme. Sources so far examined cannot for various reasons be availed of. The group are now being advised to approach Cork County Council to investigate the possibility of using a council borehole in the area. I am not in a position to say when work on the scheme will commence.

81.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he proposes to implement the promise to provide a water supply from Poulaphouca for the people of Brannockstown and Mile Hill, County Kildare; and when he hopes to provide the water supply in question.

I understand that it is intended that the Brannockstown and Mile Hill areas, County Kildare, will be served by the proposed extensions to the regional water supply scheme, revised preliminary documents for which are at present being prepared by Kildare County Council.

Is the Minister aware that Kildare County Council have assured me they are awaiting the Minister's approval of some of the points in the preliminary documents?

My information is that they are preparing revised preliminary proposals for this scheme.

According to the Minister's information, is there nothing in the Department?

There were preliminary proposals but they have to be revised and we are awaiting the revised proposals.

82.

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Local Government if he is yet in a position to sanction (a) the loan of £203,500 for Ardfinnan regional water scheme, stage I, which was applied for on 11th August, 1965; (b) the loan of £232,000 for Emly regional water scheme, stage I, which was applied for on 15th June, 1965; (c) the loan of £407,000 for Dundrum regional water scheme, stage I, which was applied for on 15th June, 1965; (d) the loan of £178,000 for Clonmel regional water scheme, stages I and II, which was applied for on 11th August, 1965; and (e) the loan of £220,000 for Knockgraffan infill area of Galtee regional water scheme which was applied for on 31st December, 1965.

I am not in a position to say when a decision is likely to issue on Tipperary South Riding County Council's applications for loans to finance the schemes mentioned.

The remaining questions will appear on tomorrow's Order Paper.
