Vol. 229 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Foreign Military Aircraft at Shannon.

4.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether military aircraft belonging to any foreign power were recently based at Shannon Airport; and, if so, why.

No foreign military aircraft have been based at Shannon.

I regret that the Minister is misinformed in regard to this matter. I should like him, if he can, to explain the fact that two weeks ago a jet aircraft from Saudi Arabia was at Shannon?

There are a certain number of planes which land for fuelling and other services. There are no military aircraft stationed there.

Could the Minister not ascertain the reason why this aircraft was there?

They could be there for a very short period, not exceeding two hours.

It was there for at least two days.

Deputy Aiken was there to greet them.

Does the Deputy want to see what Deputy Dillon wanted— rabbits running around Shannon.

He was booking a passage for New York.
