asked the Minister for Education if CIE are satisfied that all safety precautions are taken in regard to transport for schoolchildren; if any accidents have been reported to date; and what action will be taken to meet the wishes of parents who are concerned for their children's safety.

I am satisfied from information furnished by CIE that adequate safety precautions are taken in regard to transport for school children.
Five accidents, all of a minor nature, have been reported to date involving school buses carrying children under the free transport scheme.
All those concerned are aware of the great importance which must be attached to the question of safety where transport of school children is involved and, in this respect, full consideration will be given to all reasonable requests by parents.
