Vol. 230 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Non-Nursing Hospital Personnel.

38.

asked the Minister for Labour if his Department will explore the possibility of establishing a joint industrial council for non-nursing hospital personnel.

Joint industrial councils are voluntary associations representative of workers and employers. The Labour Court has functions in relation to registered joint industrial councils and assists in the formation and functioning of councils, whether registered or not. I understand that the Labour Court has been approached by a trade union representing certain of the workers concerned and that the court is pursuing the matter in the normal way.

Is the Minister aware that the trade union concerned has been looking for this to be brought about for a long time, for more than a year? Is he in a position to ensure that the Labour Court will do something quickly about the matter?

They are working on it. I have not such close contact with the Labour Court.

Put them to work.
