Vol. 231 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rhodesia and South Africa Rugby Tour.

3.

asked the Minister for External Affairs whether a briefing will take place of Irish nationals, who are to take part in the proposed tour by the British Lions Rugby Team of Rhodesia and South Africa, to inform them of this country's attitude to the regimes of both these countries.

The answer to the Deputy's question is in the negative. I would refer him to the reply I gave him on the 7th instant.

Is the Taoiseach aware that the practice has been that members of such a team are briefed by the British Commonwealth Office? If Irish nationals are involved in such a team, does the Taoiseach not think that our men should have a separate briefing?

As of now, I do not know if any Irish nationals will be involved in this tour. If they are, they know the policy of this country in relation to South Africa and Rhodesia.

If this Government have an attitude to both these racialist regimes, surely our nationals should be instructed as to the attitude of this country to both regimes and it should not be an assumption that they do know it?
