The matter was referred to the Garda for investigation. It is understood that their enquiries have not been completed.
Last week, the Minister told the House of the large number of officers of his Department who are investigating the non-payment of radio and television licences. Would it not be desirable that the attention of some of these experts in his Department be directed to investigating the source of illegal transmission so that an end may be put to it in the country?
This was a single isolated incident. It involves matters other than what would normally be examined by officers whose duty it is to request people to pay their licences. The matter is under investigation by the Garda. I should not think of giving any information on the subject at present because it would embarrass the Garda in their investigations.
