Vol. 231 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Factory Inspectors.

34.

asked the Minister for Labour if he will arrange for an increase in the number of factory inspectors, especially women inspectors; and if he will ensure that inspectors when visiting a factory are accompanied by a member of the safety committee representing the workers where such a committee exists, or otherwise by a union representative.

A competition to recruit additional factory inspectors (men and women) was held recently and a further competition will be held shortly.

The Factories Act, 1955, provides that an inspector is entitled to have the Safety Delegate, who is a member of the Safety Committee, accompany him on his tour of inspection of the factory.
