Vol. 231 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment and Disability Benefits.

55.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he is aware of the serious hardship caused to the recipients of unemployment benefit at Glanduff and Derreenabannsky, Attymachugh, Foxford, County Mayo, who have to travel to Bonniconlon, Ballina, to sign for benefit; and if he will make the necessary arrangements to make Foxford the centre for signing on for benefit.

I am not aware of the hardship to which the Deputy refers but I am having the position examined sympathetically and I will let him know the result.

56.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he has received representations from the Irish Transport and General Workers Union regarding the abolition of the three-day waiting period as a qualification for entitlement to unemployment benefit so far as casual dock labour is concerned; and what action he proposes to take in the matter.

57.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he has received representations from the Irish Transport and General Workers Union regarding the abolition of the three-day waiting period in respect of unemployment benefit and disability benefit; and whether he proposes to introduce legislation to give effect to this proposal.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 56 and 57 together.

I have received representations from the Irish Transport and General Workers Union in regard to the matters referred to by the Deputy in his Questions. Legislation to give effect to the proposals which were the subject of the representations is not at present contemplated.
